Dr Nick Phillips is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with over 16 years' experience who specialises in shoulder and elbow surgery. He sees patients with complaints such as shoulder pain, tendon injury, arthritis, and elbow pain. He also has a special interest in arthroscopic surgery. He is currently based at Wythenshawe Hospital where he is clinical lead for the orthopaedic department, and he has previously spent time as strategy lead for orthopaedic services across the Manchester Foundation Trust (MFT). During his time at MFT, Dr Phillips introduced reverse geometry total shoulder replacements and has been part of the continued development of minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Dr Phillips also sees patients at his private clinic at the OthTeam Centre where he is a consultant shoulder and elbow surgeon.
Dr Phillips qualified in 1990 from the University of Cambridge, before training in the East Anglia region. He then completed higher training in Sheffield before undertaking fellowship training in Melbourne, Australia. During this time, Dr Phillips developed expertise in the use of hydrodilatation for the treatment of frozen shoulder, a technique he later introduced to the Manchester Foundation NHS Trust. He was also awarded the British Elbow and Shoulder Society Travelling Fellowship Award, which enabled him to train in South Africa and the USA.
