Mr Nick Phillips is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with over 20 years' experience, he specialises in shoulder and elbow surgery. He sees patients with complaints such as shoulder pain, tendon injury, instability, arthritis, and elbow pain and stiffness. He performs the majority of his surgeries with minimally invasive techniques (arthroscopic surgery). He is currently based at Wythenshawe Hospital where he was clinical lead for the orthopaedic department for 3 years, and he has previously spent time as strategy lead for orthopaedic services across the Manchester Foundation Trust (MFT). During his time at MFT, Mr Phillips introduced reverse geometry total shoulder replacements and has been part of the continued development of minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Mr Phillips sees patients at his private clinic at the OthTeam Centre where he is a consultant shoulder and elbow surgeon, as well as at The Alexandria Hospital in Cheadle.
Dr Phillips qualified in 1990 from the University of Cambridge, then completed his higher surgical training in Sheffield before undertaking a Fellowship in Melbourne, Australia. During this time, Dr Phillips developed expertise in the use of hydrodilatation for the treatment of frozen shoulder, a technique he later introduced to the Manchester Foundation NHS Trust.
In 2004 he was also awarded the British Elbow and Shoulder Society Travelling Fellowship Award, which enabled him to train in South Africa and the USA.

Nick is very friendly, charming and welcoming . Doesn’t talk down to you like some consultants have in the past. He explained how the shoulder works in the context of the issues I was having and and carefully listened to my explanation. He took interest in me as a whole person and showed that individual care by appreciating that my normal range of movement is more than others. He also explained the procedure well. May I suggest that in the letter about the procedure please could he mention the type of steroid being used as when I donated blood they needed to know what steroid I had had… odd request perhaps, but it took ages for the blood donation nurse to figure out if I could donate.
Dr. Nick Phillips is an amazing consultant. Despite finding myself in a situation where I was hearing new terms and with english being my second language Dr Phillips took the time to explain everything in details for me and answering my questions. Really grateful with the way I’ve been attended by Dr Phillips.
