About Mr Mark Farndon

Mr Mark Farndon is a Consultant specialising in Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery and is currently working for the NHS at Harrogate District Hospital.

Mr Farndon qualified from the University of Newcastle with a Distinction in 1998, before moving to Yorkshire in 2000 and then to Leeds and Bradford where he undertook his basic surgical training. He was then awarded an MRCS(Eng) and moved onto higher surgical training. He completed 6 years of specialist training in orthopaedic surgery and a further 18 months training in foot and ankle surgery with fellowship-trained consultants. Furthermore, he completed and was awarded his FRCS(Tr & Orth) in 2007 and then developed a more specialist interest in arthroscopic knee surgery and knee arthroplasty during a 6-month fellowship.

He focuses on all aspects of foot and ankle conditions, including complex primary and revision surgery, arthroscopic knee surgery and knee replacement surgery (partial, total and robotic). He also treats foot deformities, arthrodesis of the foot and sports injuries. He is regularly involved in research and also presents lectures to students on foot and ankle conditions. He has also written many publications and has presented his research both nationally and internationally.

I would not hesitate to recommend Mr Farndon to anyone in need of lower limb care. I first saw him in February 2025 after a previous foot surgery, performed by another specialist, had resulted in ongoing foot and knee problems. From the outset, Mr Farndon did not pressure me into further surgery; instead, he guided me through the options and helped me understand the potential benefits of each approach. Ultimately, conservative treatments were insufficient, and I chose to proceed with surgery on both my foot and knee. Both procedures were handled so skillfully and gently that I experienced minimal post-operative pain. Unfortunately, I fractured my operated knee shortly after surgery, but Mr Farndon remained patient and supportive, carefully guiding me through the recovery process once again. Mr Farndon is a highly skilled surgeon who combines professionalism with genuine kindness, attentiveness, and patience. I am extremely grateful for his care.

I had ankle surgery within Mr Farndon received excellent care throughout. The whole process was very efficient—I was seen quickly for my initial appointment and was scheduled for surgery within days which made a huge difference. He was professional, clear, and reassuring, taking the time to explain everything and answer my questions. The surgery went smoothly, and my recovery has been well supported. I felt in very safe hands and would highly recommend.
