Mr. Toby Briant-Evans is an experienced Orthopaedic Surgeon. He qualified from Nottingham University Medical School in 1999 and completed his training across London, the South West, and the Wessex region. He pursued specialist arthroplasty fellowship training in New Zealand, Basingstoke, and Oxford, and furthered his expertise with a trauma fellowship in the USA.
Mr. Briant-Evans specialises in hip and knee replacement surgery, including primary, complex, and revision procedures, as well as arthroscopic knee surgery, computer-navigated knee replacement, and unicompartmental knee replacement. He is actively involved in teaching, serving as a faculty member on both regional and national courses, and provides guidance to surgical trainees locally.
His early career included teaching anatomy at Guy’s, King’s, and St Thomas’ Medical School before undertaking basic surgical training on the Hammersmith Hospitals Rotation in North West London. His interest in hip surgery was fostered during his time at Exeter, a leading centre for hip replacement research. His Orthopaedic Registrar training was completed in the Wessex region, and he gained further experience with an AO Trauma fellowship in Denver, Colorado, and an arthroplasty fellowship in Auckland, New Zealand, where he honed his skills in computer-navigated and patient-specific knee replacement surgery.
Mr. Briant-Evans achieved his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training in September 2012 and spent the following year advancing his expertise in joint replacement surgery. This included a fellowship at North Hampshire Hospital in Basingstoke and an honorary fellowship at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford, focusing on complex revision hip and knee surgery and lower limb reconstruction following tumour excision. He was appointed as a substantive Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in April 2014, dividing his NHS duties between Basingstoke and Winchester.
He has a strong research interest in hip and knee surgery and has published and presented his work internationally, with a particular focus on metal-on-metal hip replacements. Mr. Briant-Evans is the Joint Replacement Rapid Recovery Lead Clinician at North Hampshire Hospital and The Hampshire Clinic. He continues to contribute to the field through teaching at Southampton University and the Royal Society of Medicine in London.

Mr Toby Briant-Evans is consistently professional, kind, friendly, and reassuring in his interactions with patients. He provides clear explanations for various orthopaedic procedures, especially hip replacement surgery. Patients frequently report successful surgical outcomes, with many regaining significant mobility. His approachable manner, coupled with outstanding results, results in high recommendations and patient confidence.
Toby is both professional and extremely empathetic. Both my wife and I cannot speak more highly of his caring manner and professionalism. He has been careful to explain all important details every step of the way for my total hip replacement. The outcome has been thoroughly monitored and expectations provided to give the patient reassurance.
Mr Toby Bryant Evans put me at ease from the start By the time we were half way through he had totally gained my trust in him After going through all my joints and explaining in lay mans terms exactly what we were looking at l was so relieved that I did not have to have another hip replacement and that I could hopefully manage the pain from the sacroiliac joint with exercises working with my chiropractor I came out of there singing "I'm on Top of the world" I felt so elated It made such a difference that I understood what was actually going on in my body I would highly recommend him Thankyou so much
Mr Briant-Evans made me feel at ease immediately. He took time to talk through my imaging and clearly explained his understanding of my hip/back issues. I would not hesitate in going back to see him.
He explained everything to me and put my mind at rest after having a total knee replacement a year ago
Always empathetic, kind. Always takes the patient's home circumstances into consideration and tries to avoid surgery if possible
Toby has clearly seen it all before, which makes him possibly a little complacent. For example, he seems happy to take the patient's word for how much pain /mobility they have, rather than physically examine / manipulate them.
Mr Toby Briant-Evans is a very pleasant and I would say well liked gentleman and brilliant surgeon he puts you at ease from the word go and reassures you that things will go well. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Toby Briant-Evans if surgery is required.
As always Mr Toby Brian’s-Evan’s was excellent very kind and caring
