I am a highly experienced hip and knee surgeon having worked as a Consultant locally for over 8 years and in orthopaedics for over 20. As such, I am currently the lead knee surgeon for the Essex and Suffolk Elective Orthopaedic Centre (ESEOC) and a key member of the knee Major Revision Network. I offer all forms of knee surgery including partial knee replacements, soft tissue knee surgery and patient specific knee replacements. I am an expert revision ('re-do') knee replacement surgeon, meaning I frequently see patients who may have problems from the original surgery. Likewise, I am regularly referred patients from colleagues for either surgery or second opinions.
The area of most interest over the last few years has been in robotic surgery, which I offer (alongside conventional surgery) to patients at my NHS hospital and in the private sector. I have gained a wealth of experience in this field having performed over 150 cases and I am regularly asked to teach and train other surgeons. I can discuss and offer this to almost all patients.
In terms of hip surgery, I perform cemented, hybrid and cementless hip replacements using an evidence driven approach and putting the patients at the centre of the decision making process. I like to establish a good rapport with my patients and try to take a down to earth friendly approach to make the decision making process and operative recovery optimal.
Away from surgery, I am involved in high level research having helped set up The Institute of Excellence in Robotic Surgery (TIERS) at Anglia Ruskin University where I am an Honorary Senior Lecturer. I am a clinical supervisor for trainee orthopaedic surgeons and am the lead clinician for audit at Colchester Hospital. I was awarded the East of England training rotation 'Trainer of the Year' award last year!
I like to keep active and spend time with my family, preferrably in the outdoors! I also really enjoy watching sport, having played rugby to international level in my youth. Perhaps this allows me to sympathise when my patients have sore joints!
