About
Mr Thomas Routledge attended medical schools at Cambridge and then Oxford Universities, where he won scholarships in medical science. His surgical training was in Cambridge , London and New York. He was appointed as a Consultant in Thoracic Surgery at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals in 2007, where he is Chief of Thoracic Surgery. He is currently the senior thoracic surgeon at HCA London Bridge Hospital and helps lead their lung cancer multi-disciplinary team.
He has been at the forefront of developing robotic minimally invasive surgery working as an advisor and technology developer with Intuitive Surgical and the DaVinci robotic system. He has developed techniques that allow the majority of his patients to benefit from this more precise and also gentler way of doing surgery, widening the applicability of this technology to a wide range of situations and conditions. Whilst technical surgical excellence is the heart of his approach, Mr Routledge is very much focused on patient experience and support for patients' families during the challenging time that surrounds any surgical treatment, and has built a team at London Bridge Hospital and across HCA London to achieve this.

For a person with his responsibilities, he was always avaliable, did exactly what he said,was calm, reassuring and attentive, brilliant service I would also like to add a comment about his assistant Louise, exactly the same, always available, got everything sorted out without any fuss, really nice lady

I was referred to Mr Routledge for thoracic robotic surgery in August 2022 following a lengthy period of diagnosis for lung cancer. I was delighted and reassured with his effective communication skills, answering queries and explaining risks. His skills in surgery and care proved to be first class with a good recovery period with no serious complications. He was also helpful in the post operative period with answering queries and signposting info related to eg histology etc. I am happy to recommend Mr Routledge for his surgical competence and his understanding at a very difficult time.

I am so glad I met Mr Tom Routlegde he is an excellent individual(highly Professional) whom I will recommend even in my sleep. He has given me extraordinary hope, and I feel more comfortable talking to him than any specialist. With all his high IQ, he is very simple and respectful. I just do not know what to tell him. I pray that nature and God the Omnipresent, Omnipotent and Omniscience should bless him and his family and give him a long healthy life.
