My recent visit was a follow-up check, which is carried out periodically since my initial diagnosis and surgery in early 2024. Tom is always kind and open in his discussions with me and my wife. He explains the diagnoses simply and clearly and always answers our questions in the same way.

Words cannot do justice to my experience with Mr Routledge. He was an exceptional support during both of my lung surgeries recently, from pre-care, honest guidance, compassion and empathy, to post-care check in and follow ups. He made himself available around the clock and was very responsive to us even after discharge and nurses on the ward. He didn’t just support me, but my husband too - holding us both along on the journey. He is a rare soul - kind, gentle, and incredibly gifted at what he does. Mr Routledge was highly recommended to me by another doctor and when I first met him, I knew why. The truth is, there are many experts and qualified surgeons in this field - who do you pick? Of course, Mr Routledge has developed and pioneered techniques and technology that is at the forefront of Thoracic surgery, that is definitely in his favour. But to have someone who genuinely cares and doesn’t treat you like another name on a list is one in a billion. That’s what I loved and appreciated - he is human. And he treated me like a human too. There was no talking down to me or use of medical jargon. He took the time to explain and answer questions honestly, injecting humour during the right moments. He provided assurance when he could. Tom is reliable. He was Happy to be phoned by my husband if we were worried. Highly intelligent but not patronising when you ask a stupid question because it’s scary. He works selflessly to his own detriment i feel. He nearly smiled ! which i was most of all delighted with! as i really don’t think caring for serious cancer surgery can be much fun.
