Mr Simon Fulford

Mr Simon Fulford is a highly experienced Consultant Urologist practicing at Woodlands Hospital and James Cook University Hospital. He qualified in medicine (MB BS) from the University of London in 1987 and went on to achieve Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in 1992, followed by FRCS (Urol) in 1999, reflecting his advanced specialist training in urology.

Mr Fulford trained extensively in urology across the UK and developed particular expertise in spinal injuries urology, functional and urodynamic urology, and reconstructive urological surgery. He completed a Spinal Injuries Urology Fellowship in Sheffield before being appointed as a Consultant Urologist in Middlesbrough in 2001, where he has since built a distinguished clinical career.

In addition to his clinical work, Mr Fulford is actively involved in teaching and research. He has supervised a research fellows investigating ketamine uropathy. He currently supervises a Functional and Reconstructive Urology clinical fellow at JCUH.

He contributes to national education through teaching on the British Association of Urological Surgeons Spinal Injuries Urology course twice a year. He is regularly invited to teach locally, nationally and internationally most recently at the 2025 Arabic Association Of Urology meeting in OMan.  He is also an experienced surgical mentor training fellow urologists in complex reconstructive procedures and the use of artificial urinary sphincters in men and women as well the implantation of male sling techniques.

In addition Mr Fulford works as an expert witness preparing numerous medicolegal reports annually. He most frequently assists clients in their claims for compensation following spinal cord or other neurological injury (including traumatic brain injury and cauda equina syndrome) impacting their bladder, bowel and sexual function.  He also frequently preapreas reports claimants or defendants in medical negligence claims.
