Dr Jonathan Barclay

Dr Jonathan Barclay is a highly skilled Consultant Urological Surgeon who specialises in functional, neurological, and reconstructive urology. With a patient-centred approach, he is dedicated to providing comprehensive care for individuals experiencing complex bladder dysfunction and other neurological urinary conditions. His clinical focus includes the management of urological patients with congenital and acquired spinal cord injuries, ensuring they receive tailored treatment plans to improve their quality of life.

Dr Barclay graduated from Newcastle University Medical School with merit in 2009. He then undertook his foundation training and completed his core surgery training. In 2015, he was appointed to the higher surgical training programme in Urology. He was awarded his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Urology, FRCS (Urol), in 2020, and achieved his Certificate of Completion of Training in 2021.

Throughout his career, Dr Barclay has been at the forefront of introducing advanced urological treatments. He was jointly responsible for establishing a major sacral neuromodulation programme, which significantly expanded the management options available to patients suffering from bladder dysfunction. His expertise also extends to reconstructive procedures, helping patients regain function and confidence through innovative surgical and non-surgical interventions.
