Qualifications

Mr Sanjiv Chug qualified as a doctor in 1983 and has trained extensively in postgraduate orthopaedics both in the UK and abroad. He was awarded Master of Surgery (Orthopaedics) higher degree for his reseach on a form of hip replacement.

While a Specialist Registrar on the Birmingham rotation he was appointed as one of the first Lower Limb Reconstruction Fellows working with Mr Derek McMinn, the inventor and progenitor of the resurfacing hip replacement - designed to provide a better surgical treatment for the younger arthritic patients.

Later he was also awarded a British Limb Reconstruction Society travelling fellowship to Italy to work with the international experts in the external fixation and limb lengthening procedures.

Mr Chugh is Wolverhamptom's Senior Knee Surgeon and deals with both knee replacements (including unicompartmental and patellofemoral replacements) and, particularly, complex ligament injuries. As such he carries out surgical repair and reconstruction following sports injuries, particulary important to patients whose livelihoods depend on it.

He also continues to perform hip replacement surgery including resurfacing hip replacement.

Mr Chugh is a trainer is surgical skills for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and is on the local regional training committee which oversees the registrar training in Orthopaedics in the West Midlands. He is currently (2010-2011) President of the Naughton Dunn Society, the West Midlands Eduational Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
