About Mr Richard Young

I studied medicine at Oxford and Cambridge Universities. After qualifying I returned to teach at Cambridge and tutor at Downing College before starting my surgical training at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol. I continued plastic surgery training in Hong Kong, London and Belgium, working in well known hospitals such as The Royal Marsden, Great Ormond Street and The University Hospital, Gent.

I was awarded the specialist fellowship in Plastic Surgery, FRCS (Plast), in 2007 and my Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in 2008 with entry on to the GMC Specialist Plastic Surgery Register. The same year I was appointed as a Consultant in the Craniofacial Plastic Surgery Department at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, London where my NHS practice is still based. I also run a private practice at 152 Harley Street, London.

I have a specialist interest in skin cancers, benign moles, lipomas, general skin surgery as well as cosmetic rejuvenation utilising non-surgical techniques.

I am a core member of the Skin Cancer Team at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and work closely with consultant colleagues in oculoplastic surgery, ENT, maxillofacial and neurosurgery.

I am a full member of the Royal College of Surgeons (RCS) and the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS)

Mr Young was outstanding. He gave a clear, calm and very thorough explanation of my diagnosis and the surgical options, including the practical and cosmetic implications of each approach. He was reassuring without being dismissive, and clearly considered both the medical and aesthetic aspects very carefully. I particularly appreciated the time he took to explain the reconstruction options, the expected recovery, the risks, and the follow-up plan. He also picked up on an additional test that had not been listed in my pathology report, which gave me a great deal of confidence in his attention to detail. I would highly recommend him.

Really happy with the experience. Incredibly professional and knowledgeable, not to mention a skilled and steady hand. I had a very small lesion removed from my lip, and scarring was minimal.

From my very first appointment with Mr Young, for excision of a giant Lipoma, I felt calm and relaxed and knew I had made the right decision. He is professional, attentive, extremely calm in every situation and very kind and reassuring. I would highly recommend him for surgery of this kind. His aftercare was exemplary also.

Mr Young recently completed my lentigo maligna melanoma surgery. At all times he was very pleasant and re-assuring and made me feel at ease. Everything was explained to me clearly so I understood each procedure which was undertaken.

professionalism is a word that ought to be guaranteed but sadly not all consultants meet the test - Dr Young does and his back office support is extremely efficient

I saw Mr Young for him to review the site of the removal of a lesion on my chin which he had undertaken 6 weeks previously

I wanted to express my sincere gratitude and provide feedback following the reconstruction of my eyebrow and forehead after the Mohs procedure to remove a basal cell carcinoma. The entire experience, from initial consultation to recovery, was exceptional. Your clear and detailed explanation of the procedure was immensely reassuring, and I truly appreciated you taking the time to patiently answer all of my questions. Your empathy and supportive manner made a significant difference during what could have been a very anxious time. Most importantly, the end result is incredible. Given the extent of the Mohs removal, I am simply amazed by the meticulous and high-quality reconstruction work on my eyebrow and forehead. Even in the early stages, the outcome is far better than I had hoped for, and I have full confidence that the scar will continue to fade beautifully over time as you predicted. Thank you again for your outstanding skill and compassionate care.

I had an earlobe reconstruction procedure to repair a stretched piercing about 2 months ago. Mr. Young was incredibly professional, kind, and attentive throughout the entire process. They explained everything clearly, made me feel completely comfortable, and the procedure itself was quick and painless. The healing went smoothly, and the final result looks really good. I’m so pleased with the outcome and really grateful for the care and precision that went into the surgery.
