About Mr Ravi Ray
Mr Ravi Ray completed his undergraduate studies in 2001 and then trained in London and the South East of England. He is currently a consultant at Basildon & Thurrock University Hospitals since April 2015 and offers a thorough upper limb service. During his training, he obtained a fellowship in upper limb surgery from Southampton University Hospital and Guy's & St Thomas' Hospitals. Additionally, he also holds a Diploma in the field of Sports Medicine and is working towards a Masters in Clinical Education based at King's College in London. With a keen interest in sports medicine, he is looking after amateur boxers as an accredited England Boxing Doctor and professional rugby players at the London Irish Rugby Football Club.
His practice involves the latest techniques in keyhole and open surgery and he keeps himself updated through regular national and international meetings, conferences and case discussions with colleagues. A very enthusiastic medical educator, Mr Ray is highly active in national recruitment of junior doctors into Orthopaedics. He regularly scrutinises his own practice through auditing and has written many pieces of research, presenting some of this internationally.
He finds the opportunity to look after patients in his clinic very rewarding and he is a very approachable and kind doctor. Mr Ray also has an excellent working relationship with the physiotherapy team.

A shoulder operation followed by physio. I was amazed at how well the op went, recovery was very quick and full motion has been restored.
Mr Ray is such a lovely, caring man and a brilliant surgeon. I went to see him for a frozen shoulder and he clearly explained all the options available to me. I immediately felt at ease with him and felt that he genuinely had my best interests at heart. He performed my arthroscopic capsular release surgery and it solved my frozen shoulder, which had been causing me a lot of pain. I am so pleased I chose to see him and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone.
I explained the issues I was having with my shoulder, after examining my shoulder Dr Ray gave me options to regain the mobility back in my arm/shoulder. I elected for surgery which went well and with help of physio the shoulder is nearly back to normal.
Mr Ravi Ray is a fantastic Consultant & I cannot recommend him highly enough. He is very clear in explaining his work, as well as having a fantastic bed side manner after a procedure.

Wonderful experience from my first consultation all the way through my operation and beyond. Can’t thank you enough for the relief of pain I now feel and the tiny scars.
Very pleased with everything from start to finish. Very well looked after before during and after surgery
Follow up with surgeon (surgery took place 3 months ago). Scar is very neat and difficult to notice. Overall arm movement is really good. Further exercises needed to make the muscles stronger but everything healed as hoped.
