About Mr Ranjit Deshpande

Mr Ranjit Deshpande is a senior consultant in Cardiothoracic Surgery at King's College Hospital, where he has been based since 2007. He is highly specialised in Minimally Invasive (Keyhole) Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery, in addition to general cardiothoracic surgery. He is also a key member of King's "Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation" (TAVI) programme.

Mr Deshpande is renowned for using bilateral internal mammary arteries for coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG) to achieve near-total arterial re-vascularisation in ischemic heart disease. Furthermore, he is internationally recognised for performing endoscopic CABG as a "beating heart" procedure without opening the sternum.

Following his training in the South-East Thames London Cardiothoracic Surgical Programme, Mr Deshpande earned a prestigious scholarship from the European Association of Cardiothoracic Surgeons to work at OLV Zeinkenhaus, Belgium to study port-access endoscopic mitral valve repair surgery for mitral valve prolapse. He became a Senior Registrar in Advanced Aortic & Robotic Cardiac Surgery at London's Royal Brompton Hospital in 2006.

Mr Deshpande is a key member of the South London Cardiac Network's complex major aortic surgery group, which is specifically created for aortic root and aortic dissection surgery. Additionally, he is the founder and treasurer of the British and Irish Society for Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery.

Outside of the hospital, Mr Deshpande enjoys spending his free time with his family, going to the theatre, and playing cricket.

My experience with the Cleveland Clinic for cardiology treatment was overall positive, particularly with regard to the quality of clinical care. The cardiology team demonstrated a high level of expertise, professionalism, and attention to detail, which inspired confidence in both the diagnosis and the treatment plan provided. The standard of medical care reflects the institution’s strong global reputation in cardiovascular medicine. The consultation process was thorough, and the clinicians took care to evaluate the condition comprehensively. I felt that the medical decisions were evidence-based and aligned with best practices in cardiology. However, the administrative and organisational aspects of the experience were less consistent. Communication between departments, appointment coordination, and general responsiveness could be improved to better match the high standard of clinical care. At times, the process felt somewhat impersonal, which may be a reflection of the institution’s size and patient volume. In summary, the Cleveland Clinic delivers excellent cardiology care with highly skilled medical professionals. Enhancing the efficiency and patient-centeredness of administrative services would further improve the overall patient experience.

On behalf of my wife we saw Dr Byrne as well. They both made us feel at ease and took time to explain the situation and allow for questions. My wife has great confidence in them.

A great result and a new lease of life for me. First class organisation and treatment to iron out a minor setbacks following surgery. Immense skill along with a very reassuring and cheerful manner. Liz Deane also went above and beyond sorting out appointments and ridiculous medical insurance issues.
