Mr Philip Conaghan

 Philip Conaghan qualified from Oxford Medical School in 1995 having completed both pre-clinical and clinical training at Oxford University. He gained a Masters degree in physiological science and was awarded a post-graduate doctorate in 2010 for his research into bowel cancer.

Following qualification in 1995, Mr Conaghan carried out his surgical training in Norwich and London before returning to the Oxford region for his registrar training. He gained a prestigious Ethicon laparoscopic fellowship in Nottingham prior to taking up his post in Reading in 2009.

Mr Conaghan specialises in laparoscopic (keyhole) bowel surgery for bowel cancer and inflammatory bowel disease; the treatment of perianal conditions such as haemorrhoids, fissures and fistulae; and all types of hernias. He provides diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy as well as diagnostic gastroscopies (OGD). He has an excellent completion record and polyp-detection record for colonoscopy.

Mr Conaghan is an examiner for Oxford University School of Medicine and the Royal College of Surgeons and is a surgical trainer for the Oxford Deanery.
