Mr. Sumit Midya is a Consultant General Surgeon with extensive experience in both emergency and elective surgery. He completed his medical education and initial surgical training at the University of Calcutta in India. Since 2002, Mr. Midya has worked in various hospitals across the UK, gaining broad-based experience in all specialties of general surgery. He further honed his expertise with a fellowship in Laparoscopic Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. He has been serving as a Consultant in Emergency and General Surgery at Frimley Park Hospital for the past five years.
As an Emergency Surgeon, Mr. Midya is skilled in managing acutely unwell patients with life-threatening surgical conditions. His broad experience in general surgery enables him to handle complex and varied cases. Electively, his focus is on laparoscopic gallbladder surgery and the repair of abdominal wall and groin hernias via laparoscopic and open techniques. He also performs diagnostic endoscopies, including OGD, colonoscopies and flexible sigmoidoscopies.
Annually, Mr. Midya performs over 100 laparoscopic cholecystectomies, with half of them being "hot" cholecystectomies performed during acute presentations. He also performs around 50-60 groin hernia repairs and 30 abdominal wall hernia repairs each year. His emergency surgical procedures include approximately 25 laparotomies and 80-100 laparoscopic appendectomies. He also performs around 125 diagnostic colonoscopies and 100 upper GI endoscopies annually, further contributing to the diagnosis and treatment of various gastrointestinal conditions.
Mr. Midya is Clinical Lead for the Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) & Surgical Same Day Emergency Care (Surgical SDEC) at Frimley Park Hospital, where he has been instrumental in developing pathways to improve the efficiency of emergency general surgery services. Beyond his clinical work, he is passionate about education, teaching medical students, junior doctors, physician associates, and advanced nurse practitioners. He actively participates in Quality Improvement projects and Clinical Governance meetings, ensuring that the highest standards of care are consistently delivered.

Mt Midya explained tge whole procedure very clearly & allowed me to ask questions

Thank you for your excellent feedback. I appreciate your time and I am glad that you are satisfied with the procedure.
I cannot speak highly enough of Mr Midya. I was under his care for an operation last year and saw him again recently for review, and at every single stage he has been outstanding. What struck me first was his professionalism and the depth of his knowledge - he explains things clearly and honestly, without rushing and without ever making you feel like a number on a list. But what has stayed with me just as much is his warmth. He greets every patient with genuine kindness, and you leave every appointment feeling that he has thought about you as an individual rather than as a case. That combination of real clinical expertise and genuine human care is rare. Mr Midya is, quite simply, the standard other medical professionals should aspire to. I am extremely grateful to have been in his hands.

Thank you for a wonderful feedback. I glad that I could be of help to you and words keep me motivated.

Having been admitted early evening on Sunday 9/8/26 I was then operated on Monday morning at 8am. I was uncomfortable following surgery only to be expected. Mr Midya visited me checking in on my progress on a daily basis showing great care and empathy. Mr Midya was and still remains extremely professional, he has even called me at home to check I was feeling better as I was discharged without seeing him. One of mr Midya’s concerns was my infection which was treated with a full course of IV antibiotics. Mr Midya was so reassuring with me every step of the way and considering how poorly I was mr Midya really paid full attention to the issues I had following my surgery, I am extremely grateful for all the attention paid to me by Mr Midya and he really is a truly professional doctor. Thank you so much.

I am very happy to be able to help you. You were very poorly and I am so glad that you are making good progress. Please take things slowly during this recovery period and I wish you the very best.
