FAQ

About

Nev is a Consultant in Trauma and Orthopaedic (T&O) surgery working in Reading, UK. His NHS practice is based at The Royal Berkshire Hospital and he has worked there for the past 12 years. He consults privately from Spire Dunedin Hospital (Children & Adults) and Circle Hospital (Adults), both in Reading. His specialist interests are in children‘s orthopaedics and adult knee surgery. Nev's practice manager is Debbie Rollason who has worked closely with him for the last 8 years.

Career

In the year 2000, after 6 years of study and an intercalated BSc. in Neuroscience, Nev qualified as a Doctor from St Marys Hospital Medical School in London. In 2001 he completed his house jobs at St. Mary's and Wexham Park Hospital, and then started a 3-year basic surgical rotation in and around London. This included T&O jobs at Kingston Hospital and at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore. Nev then spent 6 years on the Oxford Specialist Registrar Rotation in T&O incorporating a children's fellowship at Westmead Kids in Sydney, Australia. He started his Consultant post at the Royal Berkshire Hospital in 2010 on his return from Australia and has built up a thriving private practice in Berkshire over the past decade. Nev is referred, and has treated patients from all over the UK. However, he works mainly within Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire, Wiltshire and Oxfordshire.

Current clincial practice

Nev has an interesting clinical practice as he treats all musculoskeletal conditions seen in children, as well as adult knee conditions. He is one of only a handful of surgeons in the UK who has expertise in treating knee problems in patients of all ages, from new-borns to elderly patients. He is often referred difficult cases for second opinions from all over the UK. Nev's other particular interest is in the prevention of children's sports injuries and is currently leading a task force of UK knee surgeons investigating and researching this important topic

Outside work

Out of work, Nev's busy life revolves around his extremely active family. He has a energetic family life with 3 sports mad boys under 11 and a very sporty wife who is a GB triathlete and competed in the Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii this year. She is also a Consultant at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. Although Nev's sporting love is rugby and in particular supporting Wales in Cardiff, he gets his current competitive buzz from playing golf

Explanation

I found Mr. Nev Davies's details on the internet. When I contacted Mr. Davies's secretary early in March 2024, she said the first date available for an appointment with Mr. Davies would be 10th April 2024 and helpfully suggested two of Mr. Davies's colleagues who might be able to see me more quickly. Having tried to contact the two colleagues, I felt it would be better to wait and see Mr. Davies himself. Mr. Davies's secretary booked me an appointment on 10th April and said she would obtain the details of the letters sent following my appointments at the Royal Berkshire Hospital so Mr. Davies could be fully informed. I sent Mr. Davies' secretary details of all the appointments I had had so that he had a complete picture. In the period leading up to 10th April I explained to my GP that I had an appointment scheduled with Mr. Davies. My GP said this was an entirely reasonable thing to do and gave it as her opinion that Mr. Davies is “very good”. When I saw Mr. Davies on 10th April 2024 he was very friendly, approachable and sympathetic. He quickly appreciated the problem I had following my accident and that it was causing me continuing difficulties. Mr. Davies confirmed that my injury is unusual, but said that he was confident that it could be treated. Mr. Davies outlined two possible ways forward in treating my condition: one with the assistance of the radiotherapy team and a second with the advice of a consultant in the plastics team; and highlighted that I would also need physiotherapy. Mr. Davies introduced me to his secretary after the consultation on 10th April. His secretary promised to forward copies of the paperwork to the Royal Berkshire Hospital, to my GP and to me, which she did on 11th April 2024, the day after the consultation. I confirm that I am impressed by and grateful for Mr. Davies's assistance and that of his secretary.

Mr Davies replaced both of my knees and it has been a complete game changer. I am now pain free after years of suffering. I had stopped playing golf, squash and skiing I had one knee replaced in February and the other in August last year. I am back on the squash court and golf course and skied in January this year. I am eternally grateful to Mr Davies for the care and surgery which has enabled me to resume a normal lifestyle. He put me at ease and the information he provided helped with my rehabilitation

I have nothing but praise for the attention and care that Mr Davies (and his administrative and medical team) showed throughout the process of my knee replacement. Everything was obviously planned in detail and worked smoothly and all my questions were answered clearly. The rest is now up to me to achieve the best possible outcome. Thank you Mr Davies and Mrs Rollason.
