About Mr Mark Frame

At Wessex Knee, our mission is to deliver the highest quality, most advanced knee care tailored to each individual. From your first appointment to your full recovery, we put your wellbeing at the centre of every decision, ensuring a smooth, personal, and supportive journey every step of the way.

Led by Mr Mark Frame, an internationally fellowship-trained Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon with over 11 years’ experience as a consultant, we take pride in combining surgical excellence with a caring, patient-centred approach.

Mr Frame is a tertiary referral specialist at Southampton General Hospital NHS Trust — a Major Trauma Centre — and holds a prominent record in the National Joint Registry for partial knee replacements and resurfacing procedures, consistently achieving above-average results.

Mr Frame’s practice focuses exclusively on complex knee conditions, including:

Sports injuries and ACL reconstruction, with a particular focus on the Arthrex All-Inside technique, an advanced, minimally invasive procedure that requires no screws and only one hamstring tendon. This allows quicker recovery, less pain, and a more stable knee.

Knee trauma surgery for fractures and soft-tissue injuries.

Patellar instability surgery, including MPFL reconstruction, tibial tubercle osteotomies, derotation osteotomies, and 3D-printed, custom-fit trochleoplasties.

Partial knee resurfacing and joint-preserving treatments — nearly 40% of Mr Frame’s annual knee replacements involve partial resurfacing, often allowing patients to return to activity faster and with less discomfort than traditional total knee replacement.

Biological and non-invasive treatments for osteoarthritis, including Arthrosamid® hydrogel injections, an innovative long-lasting injectable knee implant that provides effective pain relief and restores mobility without surgery.

Innovation & Research

Mr Frame is a pioneer in 3D printing for surgical planning, with nearly 12 years of dedicated research and expertise that have been recognised nationally and internationally. His advanced work enables highly precise surgical techniques and truly patient-specific solutions — particularly in complex knee reconstructions, cartilage regeneration, and joint-preserving procedures.

As part of a major trauma centre at University Hospital Southampton, Mr Frame is actively involved in cutting-edge clinical research. He focuses on improving outcomes for patients with patellar instability, knee trauma, and cartilage damage, and continually integrates the latest innovations into his practice to enhance patient recovery and long-term joint health.

This commitment to research and innovation means every patient at Wessex Knee benefits from the most up-to-date, evidence-based techniques — all tailored to their individual anatomy and activity level.

Our Promise to You
At Wessex Knee, you’ll receive care from a dedicated, multidisciplinary team — including our welcoming administrative staff, experienced orthopaedic nurses, and our world-class anaesthetic team, led by Dr David Sparkes, senior intensive care consultant at University Hospital Southampton. Qualifications

Mr Frame's nearly 12 years research interest and expertise in 3D printing has had national and international coverage and he provides an expert service in teaching and creation of surgical 3D printed models.

We also provide medicolegal reporting through our sister company Certus Medicolegal.

Our anaesthetic team is exceptional and caring. Dr David Sparkes is a senior intensive care (ITU) consultant at University Hospital Southampton, looking after some of the most demanding and sickest patients in the hospital. Keeping you in very safe hands.

Mr Frame is an internationally fellowship trained pure knee surgeon, meaning he is highly specialised, solely focusing on complex problems of the knee. He has a particular specialist interest in minimally invasive solutions for sports injuries and osteoarthritis. This includes the 'Arthrex All Inside' anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction requiring no screws and only one hamstring. The revolutionary Arthrex NanoScope with a tiny 2mm camera for small joints and childres knees. He is also able to offer partial knee resurfacing rather than full total knee replacement in nearly half of his patients with degenerate osteoarthritis. Improving outcomes minimising pain and getting patients back on their feet faster. Mr Frame is performing above average in the National Joint Registry (NJR) for partial knee replacement/resurfacing including patellofemoral resurfacing (kneecap). 40% of the 100 joint surgeries a year he does being partial rather than total replacements.

He provides a tertiary service for the wider region in complex patellar instability (knee cap dislocation), including medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction, tibial tubercle osteotomy (TTO), derotation osteotomy and 3D printed assisted recreation of the knee cap groove (trochleoplasty).
