Qualifications

I completed my undergraduate medical studies from Armed Forces Medical College, Pune (India) in 1991. All my postgraduate training in Surgery was completed in England and Wales. I have practised as a Consultant General Surgeon with a specialist interest in Colorectal Surgery in Newport, South East Wales, since 2003. I am a fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh.

As a Consultant Surgeon, I hold a special interest in bowel cancer surgery and lead the Anuerin Bevan University Health Board (ABUHB) cancer multidisciplinary team. I introduced laparoscopic (Keyhole) surgery and Enhanced recovery for bowel cancers to our health board, which is now an established service. I undertake keyhole and open surgery for all bowel related diseases. I also treat patients with Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease within a Multidisciplinary setting. I have extensive experience in caring for patients with haemorrhoids (piles), Fistula and Fissure. I undertake HALO & RAR procedure for haemorrhoids facilitating faster recovery.

I am an Honorary Clinical teacher in Surgery with Cardiff University and a recognised trainer to undergraduate medical students (Cardiff Medical School) and Postgraduate surgical trainees (Wales Deanery). In addition, I enjoy my role as a basic surgical skills and Advanced Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery trainer affiliated to WIMAT (Cardiff) and Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh).

I strongly believe in a safe environment in service delivery and have a stated interest in infection control. I am the clinical lead for infection control in ABUHB and recently delivered the green pathway for Colorectal Cancer surgery during the Pandemic.

I am a published author in peer-reviewed surgical and medical journals on subjects of clinical interest including hernias, endoscopy, appendicitis, hospital-acquired infections, and bowel cancer.

I have presented in national and international conferences and, on two occasions, my clinical research work has been presented to the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), London.

I have been invited as a guest lecturer to local Primary care meetings and international conferences - Association of Surgeons of India regional meetings and National Cancer Institute, Nagpur, India.
