Mr Jullien Gaer is a distinguished and internationally recognised cardiothoracic surgeon based in London, practising privately at Royal Brompton Hospital PPU, Harefield Hospital PPU and The Harley Street Clinic. He specialises in adult cardiac surgery, with particular expertise in aortic valve surgery (including minimally invasive approaches), aortic root surgery including the Ross operation and aortic valve repair, aortic arch surgery, complex redo and aortic procedures, surgery for endocarditis and coronary artery bypass surgery including total arterial revascularisation. Having practised independently for over 30 years, he is among the most experienced consultants in the country.
Mr Gaer graduated from the University of London and completed advanced postgraduate training at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, the Royal Postgraduate Medical School and Broussais Hospital in Paris. He has held consultant appointments at St George’s Hospital, London, and the Austin Hospital in Melbourne, and has worked extensively across the Middle East, China and South East Asia. He is currently site lead for aortic surgery at the Royal Brompton & Harefield Aortic Centre, part of the UK’s largest aorto-vascular unit, delivering comprehensive open and endovascular aortic care.
In addition to his clinical work, Mr Gaer has a significant international, academic and charitable profile. He has published widely on aortic surgery, is a regular invited speaker at international meetings, and an invited reviewer for the high impact cardiac surgery journals. He is a member of the Faculty of Examiners of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and an member of the prestigious EACTS and American Association for Thoracic Surgery.
He is a trustee of the Aortic Centre Trust, a registered charity supporting research into aortic diseases and the training of the specialist aortic surgeons. Mr Gaer has for many years worked with the Paris based NGO La Chaîne de l’Espoir and has been involved in the establishment of cardiac surgical units in a number of countries in the developing world.

I find Mr Gaer to be calm, professional and his extensive experience is very apparent. He dealt with any questions I had in an excellent manner, putting my mind at ease. He was not rushed and allowed time for me to express any of my concerns and responded very well.
