Mr James Bidwell

Mr James Bidwell is a practising consultant in trauma and orthopaedic surgery who has been based in Aberdeen since 2001. He is based at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and the Woodend Hospital and has also been part of the Aberdeen Orthopaedic Network for more than 12 years with which he consults privately at The Albyn Hospital, Aberdeen. Mr Bidwell specialises in sports injuries and lower limb reconstructive surgery, including knee surgery where he has a special interest in custom-fit total knee arthroplasty. He has a particular interest in non-surgical treatments of joint pain such as injection therapy, bracing treatment, and new biological therapies.

Mr Bidwell's areas of interest include the following:

• General orthopaedics
• Sports injury

Mr Bidwell qualified in 1989 from the University of London and undertook his orthopaedic surgery training in London and Glasgow. Following this, he pursued two fellowships in Edinburgh and in North America.

Mr Bidwell is actively involved in research with his topics of interest including knee ligament reconstruction, enhanced recovery techniques, and custom fit knee arthroplasty. He also gives talks on general orthopaedics and lectures in the field of knee injuries.

Mr Bidwell is a member of a number of organisations including the British Orthopaedic Association, the British Association for Surgery of the Knee, and the International Society for Arthroscopy and Knee Surgery.
