About Mr David A Cairns
Mr David Cairns is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Aberdeen, since appointment in 2008. He is a Member of Aberdeen Orthopaedic Network and sees patients at Albyn Hospital.
Mr Cairns completed his degree in medicine at the University of Edinburgh in 1997, followed by his specialist training in orthopaedic surgery on the West of Scotland Orthopaedic rotation.
He was awarded a Fellowship at Perth Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Centre, Western Australia in 2007.
Mr Cairns is an NHS Consultant at both Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and Woodend hospitals in Aberdeen. He is an honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Aberdeen. In 2017 he was appointed as an examiner for the Fellowship examination in Trauma and Orthopaedic surgery (FRCS Tr&Orth). He is also the Training Programme Director for the North of Scotland Orthopaedic Rotation.
His main areas of interest are all aspects of arthroscopic shoulder surgery, rotator cuff repair, instability surgery and joint replacement. He also performs elbow and hand surgery with a specialist interest in elbow tendinopathy (tennis and golfer's elbow).
