About Mr Gerald Collins
Mr Collins is a Urological Surgeon with a special interest and expertise in cancer diagnosis, management and surgery.
A graduate of University College, Cork, Ireland, Gerald trained in General Surgery in England and Scotland before specializing in Urology. His MD Research was conducted with Edinburgh University and The Mayo Clinic, Rochester, USA.
He is an experienced Surgeon in General and Cancer Urology. His specialist interests include BPH, Prostatitis, Prostate and Bladder Cancer. He has particular expertise in prostate cancer diagnostics such as interpretation of PSA, MR scanning and the very customized decision on when to biopsy and uses the PSA/genetic Stockholm3 test as appropriate particularly in men at increased risk such as those with a strong family history. He has initiated a programme on optimizing bone health in men on or about to start hormone treatment for prostate cancer.
He has continued his research and academic interests throughout his career and continues to publish on a regular basis.
