About Dr Edward Petzer

Dr Petzer runs a well-established, successful private practice in Kent, while consulting and operating from several hospitals, including The Fordcombe Hospital (Tunbridge Wells), Darent Valley Hospital (Dartford), KIMS Hospital (Maidstone), and King’s College Hospital (London).  With an experienced medical team at all these hospitals Dr Petzer is able to support patients back to good health.

Dr Petzer has been a Consultant Cardiologist for over eighteen years, working closely with those in need of cardiological treatment.  He has cared for patients needing cardiological diagnosis, including SADS (inherited cardiac disease), heart failure, blood pressure issues, dizziness, POTS, palpitations, shortness of breath, chest pains, collapses, faints, reduced tolerance to exercise.  He spearheaded the first Syncope Service in the Southeast England in NHS (2016).

Using the latest technology in cardiac diagnoses and management, Dr Petzer is an accomplished high volume device surgeon, well versed in pacemaker implants, cardiac resynchronization devices, and internal cardiac defibrillators. Having learned first-hand from internationally respected cardiac surgeons in Holland in 2015, Dr Petzer implanted the first subcutaneous cardiac defibrillator in Kent.  This procedure is now an integrated part of his private practice after having received glowing patient feedback as to its benefits.  He is great proponent of implantable loop devices to help diagnose arrythmias in his patients. He embraces new technologies such as Apple Watch, KardiaMobile, etc., to help with care and diagnosis of his patients.

He works closely with renowned cardiologist, Dr Nicholas Gall in treating patients at the Tertiary Specialised National POTS Clinic.

Dr Petzer attends international conferences in person and online twice a year to make sure his knowledge remains up to date and keeps abreast of innovations change of practise in his area of expertise.

Dr Petzer has held roles in several varied positions, from Chair of the Resuscitation Committee, along with Advanced Life Support Instructor to Clinical Director of ALS Training at Darent Valley Hospital. Device Lead at Darent Valley Hospital since its inception.  He now performs over 500 procedures a year.  For last three years he has been Morbidity and Mortality lead at Darent Valley Hospital in effort to improve standards and safety for patients.

He personally been involved in surgical training of device specialists, many of whom are now consultants in Kent and he continues to be involved in their training at King’s College Hospital which he does enthusiastically.

He believes strongly in supporting local communities and has for last fourteen years offered Advanced Life Support Training to the Royal Tunbridge Wells Cricket Club where he also coached the under 9s.

I have been a patient of Dr Petzer for nearly 10 years and cannot speak highly enough of him. He is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate and genuinely listens to his patients. I have a complex cardiac condition that can be difficult to manage, but he has never dismissed my symptoms or concerns. Instead, he took the time to understand what I was experiencing and worked with me to identify appropriate management strategies when standard approaches were not enough. I have always felt supported, taken seriously and very well cared for. His combination of expertise, empathy and genuine concern for his patients is rare. That kind of care makes an enormous difference when you are dealing with a difficult health condition. I feel very fortunate to have him as my cardiologist.
