Mr Edward Hughes

Mr Edward Hughes is a highly esteemed Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon. He qualified from Guys and St Thomas' Hospitals Medical School. Following this, he spent time in hospital medicine achieving Membership of the Royal College of Physicians before embarking on a career in Ophthalmology.

Mr Hughes completed his training in ophthalmology in Bristol and London and has undertaken advanced fellowships in vitreo-retinal surgery at Sydney Eye Hospital, Australia, medical retinal disease at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, and inflammatory eye disease at St Thomas' Hospital, London.

Mr Hughes is a keen trainer and is active in research with numerous publications including  review articles and a book chapter on inflammatory eye diseases. He also acts as a reviewer for several scientific journals. His current research interests include investigating optimal concentrations of intraocular gas during vitrectomy to reduce environmental impact, novel methods of macular hole surgery, optimising postoperatice care in retinal detachment surgery and various inflammatory eye disease projects.

Mr Hughes is a member of several professional bodies, including the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, the British and Eire Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons, the International Ocular Inflammation Society, Euretina, and the Medical Ophthalmological Society (UK).

Outside of work Mr Hughes is a keen golfer, an unimpressive pianist and an enjoyer of nature and our beautiful coutryside.
