Mr Edward Dunstan

Mr Edward Dunstan is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in lower limb conditions, hip replacement, and knee replacement. Recognised for his leadership in surgical innovation, he pioneered day-case hip replacement procedures in Scotland and continues to drive advancements in Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) pathways. His practice focuses on delivering high-quality, patient-centred care designed to optimise surgical outcomes, shorten hospital stays, and facilitate smooth rehabilitation.

In his clinical practice, Mr Dunstan offers comprehensive care across a wide range of lower limb conditions, with a particular focus on minimally invasive hip and knee joint replacements and orthopaedic trauma. His work in rapid recovery protocols enables eligible patients to undergo major joint surgery safely and return home on the same day. In addition to his clinical work, he has held significant advisory and committee positions, serving as an Orthopaedic Specialty Adviser to the Chief Medical Officer and contributing extensively to national surgical care improvement initiatives.

Mr Dunstan earned his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MB BS) alongside a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in London, qualifying as a Doctor in 1993. He completed basic and higher surgical training in trauma and orthopaedics, followed by a specialist fellowship in lower limb arthroplasty, minimally invasive techniques, and rapid rehabilitation. He holds Fellowships of the Royal College of Surgeons in Trauma and Orthopaedics. His professional credentials and service include contributions to the Council of the British Orthopaedic Association, the Council of the British Association of Day Surgery, and the Scottish Committee of Orthopaedics and Trauma.
