About
Mr David Khoo is a Consultant General Surgeon based at Queen's Hospital in Romford, Essex. He qualified from Guy's Hospital, London and trained in surgery mainly in the East and South England and London. Mr Khoo was appointed a consultant in 1996 at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust and holds the posts of clinical director for surgery and clinical director for gastroenterology at The Trust.
Mr Khoo is a specialist in laparoscopic surgery and was amongst the first surgeons to undertake this procedure in the UK. He now concentrates his time on surgery of the gut and sees patients with all aspects of gastrointestinal conditions and offers rapid diagnosis using endoscopy. He also has a keen interest in surgery for gastrointestinal cancer. Much of Mr Khoo's works involves performing complex laparoscopic procedures including weight loss surgery, oesophagogastrectomy, hiatus hernia and reflux surgery, splenectomy, colon resection and biliary surgery.
Mr Khoo is actively involved in the training of junior surgeons and was the 2009 winner of the prestigious Silver Scalpel award from the Association of Surgeons in Training (ASIT). He is also actively involved in research and has co-authored numerous papers in his area of interest.

From my initial consultation with David through to post surgery, I received excellent care . My recovery from keyhole surgery was extremely comfortable with minimal pain or bruising, a testament to his skill as a surgeon.

Mr Khoo has the most incredible surgical ability having carried out a hernia repair on me, I was able to do a little bit of mechanical work within in two days and only had to take a few paracetamol tablets to control a little discomfort. Although my stomach was a little swollen for a short period, I had absolutely no bruising at all and this can only be accredited to his precision and gentle touch.

Mr Khoo explained to me and my wife what exactly was involved in my operation and answered my questions regarding diet post op. As the operation took longer than usual due to my stomach lining being stuck to my chest, Mr Khoo discussed with my wife the reasons for the lengthy operation time. When I was back in my room at the hospital, Mr Khoo made frequent visits to ask how I was feeling and he was very supportive when I mentioned the pain I was experiencing. His bedside manner was excellent. When I was discharged I had follow up appointments with Mr Khoo at 1 and 3 months after the operation. He asked how I was feeling and again offered advice about what to eat and what not to. He invited me to get in touch should any problems develop in the future. Mr Khoo carried out my surgery for an inguinal hernia in 2019 and my hiatus hernia this year and I can't praise him enough for his skill and concern for his patient. If anyone is needing a hernia operation then I highly recommend Mr Khoo as the surgeon

Mr Khoo, was absolutely amazing very calm gentleman Understood my pain .His explanation was with depth. Took action immediately . Mr Khoo was very empathising. He is amazing, surgery done on the road to recovery.
