I developed an interest in ophthalmology whilst travelling in East Africa as a medical student where I helped in a local hospital. Seeing fully or almost completely blind people have their sight restored and being able to see their grandchildren for the first time was extremely formative. After medical school at Cambridge I spent some time as a "proper" doctor with jobs in A&E and general medicine before commencing the Cambridge-based East Anglian training scheme.
I was very fortunate to be in the "right place at the right time" to get a consultant ophthalmologist post at the James Paget University Hospital in Gorleston. It is a fantastic unit with a great reputation for patient care, results, research, and training. We have some of the best equipment available and wonderful staff. We are also so lucky to be in one of the beauty spots of the UK, Norfolk and Suffolk.
Outside of work I spend as much time as possible with my 3 kids, watching cricket, running and walking as well as reading extensively.
