About Mr Christopher Luscombe

Christopher Luscombe studied Medicine at Birmingham University, graduating in 1992. His basic surgical training was carried out in Staffordshire and he went on to specialise in Urology with Urological training in the West Midlands. During this time he developed a particular interest in prostate cancer and has published widely on this disease. His list of publications includes several articles in the prestigious journals The Lancet and The British Medical Journal. Birmingham University awarded him the degree Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 2003 for research into the causes of prostate cancer. He continues to be involved with research into the causes of prostate cancer in conjunction with Keele and Birmingham Universities.

He was appointed as Consultant Urological Surgeon at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in 2005, and was the local lead for Urology cancer until 2016. During this time he was the vice-chairman of the West Midlands Urology Expert Advisory Group. In 2017 he was appointed the Clinical Director for Cancer Services at the University Hospital of North Midlands, which involves leading the cancer teams from all specialities at both the Royal Stoke University Hospital and the County Hospital in Stafford. He chairs the Staffordshire STP (sustainability and transformation process) cancer board and sits on the West Midlands Cancer Alliance, which drives regional cancer strategy.

He has a particular interest in the treatment of prostate cancer, but is also experienced in the treatment of a large range of Urological conditions in both adults and children. He regularly performs treatments for conditions that include cancer, kidney stones, prostate enlargement and foreskin/testicular problems. In particular he has developed an interest into laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery of the kidney and prostate, and minimally invasive surgery, such as laser surgery for prostate enlargement and kidney stones. He was the first surgeon to introduce keyhole prostate cancer surgery in the region and is invited to other hospitals to help train other Consultant Surgeons to perform this procedure. Recently he introduced robotic prostatectomy to Staffordshire.

He is the chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at the North Staffordshire Nuffield Hospital.
