About
Mr. Chris McLean is a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon based in Guildford. He did his medical training at Imperial College, London, qualifying in 1989. After his initial medical degree, he undertook his postgraduate ophthalmic training which involved working at several London teaching Hospitals and he became a Fellow of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in 1993. His specialist training continued at Moorfield's Eye Hospital where he also undertook a Fellowship in Oculoplastic and Lacrimal surgery under Mr Richard Collin and Mr Geoffrey Rose.
With extensive skill and experience under his belt, Mr. Mclean became an NHS Consultant at the Royal Surrey County Hospital in 1999, and also works at St Peter's Hospital, Chertsey as well as his private practice in Guildford and the surrounding area. He is a founder member of the British Oculoplastic Surgical Society.
Mr McLean's great passions are small incision cataract surgery, oculoplastic surgery (plastic and reconstructive surgery around the eyes) and lacrimal surgery. In addition to his skill as an ophthalmic surgeon, he is also a keen player in the field of research and is currently involved in several ophthalmic research projects and has presented his work both nationally and internationally.
In his spare time he enjoys hill walking with his family and dogs, as well as squash, drawing & painting, trying to play golf and mountaineering.

Mr Mclean explained the procedure very well at the first consultation. The cataract operation went very smoothly under a local anesthetic. No pain and very little sensation while he performed surgery. Recovery was smooth.

Following an initial consultation Mr McLean advised that I required cataract removal surgery with a lens replacement. Mr McLean was very careful and thorough in explaining the different lens options. I was given a very clear explanation of the procedure together with possible risks. Following surgery my vision is now excellent. Images are very clear and colours brighter and sharper. Thank you Mr McLean.

I felt nervous about the procedure to begin with to the extent that I was going to have the general aesthetic but meeting Mr McLean put me at ease straight away. So I went for the local aesthetic. When first meeting Mr Mclean, he talked through the procedure fully and what may or may not happen and the after care. He was very thorough. On the day of the surgery, again he made me feel at ease and it all went so smoothly. Its 2 months on now and I've just had another follow up meeting with him where he checked the stitches, eyes and eye lids. All is great! Its the best thing I've done!
