Mr Barry Andrews

Mr Andrews has been my knee surgeon for over a year since a severe multi-ligament knee injury, tibial fracture and double meniscal tear. Given the injury was so complex, I had a lot of conflicting and uncertain opinions from other surgeons on how to operate, however Mr Andrews gave me a lot of confidence in his experience and my ability to get back to my active lifestyle. He has answered all of my questions with calmness and clarity throughout the process. Twelve months on from my initial surgery, my knee is stable again and I am planning my return to high impact sports. I can’t recommend Mr Andrews enough!

From the diagnosis to my being discharged I always found Mr Andrews to be very professional. He gave very clear explanations of what was wrong, what he intended to do in order to relieve my knee pain and how long it would take to recover from the operation. I appreciatted his willingness to answer my questions and to be honest about what I would experience after the operation and during my recovery.

I had 3 consultation sessions with Barry and he undertook my operation. He explained things very clearly, was friendly and reassuring, fully answered all my questions and the operation was a success. So I was very pleased to have chosen Barry and the Lister Hospital to address my knee issues.

I had a very complicated break and what is known as a tibial plateau fracture, in which I had to wait by the bedside for the “right surgeon” who was comfortable to mend the complicated break I had. Finally Mr Andrew’s was able to do it and very effectively. Finally after a long road of recovery and still recovering I am able to get my life back and feel a lot more confident in my capabilities. I honestly cannot recommend Mr Barry Andrews highly enough. From my very first appointment, he was incredibly kind, caring, professional and reassuring. I had my ACL surgery with him, and I feel extremely fortunate that I was under his care. Needed meniscus surgery and options were made clear to me and risks and potential repairs. Although the full repair could not be done due to the extent of the damage the surgery solved the pain and enabled me to continue life and sport as normal. Today I don’t even think about my knee which to me is a success.

Final sign-off following surgery in March - and I’d just like to say that I’m delighted with the outcome of my knee surgery with Mr Andrews. Over the past few decades, I tried and failed to get a consultant to take me on, as the problem, and therefore the fix, wasn’t clear. Thankfully, Mr Andrews likes a challenge and didn’t give up. After tests, some treatment and a lot of discussion we decided on exploratory surgery… where he discovered the problem and fixed it! I’ve just been signed off and no longer have a dodgy knee - hurrah!
