About Mr Ashwin Unnithan
Mr Ashwin Unnithan is a Consultant specialising in Orthopaedic Surgery specifically in hip and knee replacement. He is involved in revision surgery and complex trauma surgery on upper and lower limbs and is also currently working for the NHS running a high volume practice.
He graduated in Medicine in 2001 from the University of Kerala and then completed his surgical training in Surrey and Sussex. Following this, he went on to complete a Master's degree in Musculoskeletal Science at University College London. Mr Unnithan then undertook higher surgical training in both London and Surrey before completing four fellowships across the UK and in New Zealand; Complex Trauma (New Zealand), Infected and Complex Joint Replacements (Bristol hip unit), Knee Replacement Surgery (St. Alban's City Hospital) and Complex Hip and Knee Replacements and Revision Surgery (Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital).
Apart from his clinical work and research he has published his work in several peer-reviewed journals and has presented both nationally and internationally. Mr Unnithan was also awarded first prize in 2014 from his presentation at the British Trauma Society meeting.

Total Knee Replacement - Mr Unnithan is very professional and really wants you to succeed with your new knee, he was clear with his explanations and explains the importance of Physio, I particularly liked that he sees you after the surgery.
Mr Unnithan replaced my right hip in November at Ashford Hospital. The operation and the care given by the staff at Ashford was first rate and as a result, my recovery has been faster than I'd expected. The only problem has been an injury to my right foot and ankle sustained somehow during my time in hospital, which may now limit the pace of my recovery. Mr Unnithan has provided kind and clear support and advice on how to approach rehabilitation physio and a return to sport.
I found every member of staff very friendly and welcoming (Runnymede Hosp in Chertsey). Also found Mr A Unnithan easy to talk to and I appreciated his full and straightforward explanation about the pros and cons of having a total hip replacement and answered all my questions/concerns in a very professional manner. I feel confident that I am in good hands, when I have my right hip Replaced by Mr Unnithan.
Very friendly explaining everything clearly and in detail. Sent for further xrays without having to go through my GP first.

Mr Unithan has been extremely helpful, he has explained exactly what I am required to do to obtain the best results possible from my replacement knee surgery. His manner and approach are second to none, and I am very pleased with the results.
I have had a trauma successful full hip replacement. I thank Mr Unnithan for his professionalism, communication, and compassionate manner. I felt in complete safe hands. I also thank all the support staff.
The consultant surgeon was extremely clear and dedicated to his area of expertise. My only criticisms of my experience would not lie with him but to the time in the hospital on the ward and follow up package.
