Mr Anthony Perera is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeon, recognised nationally and internationally for his expertise in minimally invasive bunion surgery, sports injuries, ankle instability and complex foot deformity correction. He practises at Spire Hospital Cardiff and is widely regarded as a leader in advanced foot and ankle surgical techniques.
Mr Perera believes strongly in personalised, patient-centred care, taking time to understand each person’s symptoms, lifestyle and goals before recommending the most effective conservative or surgical treatment. He is particularly known for his work in minimally invasive bunion surgery, which offers distinct advantages for many patients. As one of the UK’s foremost experts in this technique, he teaches and trains other surgeons across both the UK and the USA.
Following his orthopaedic training in the UK, Mr Perera completed prestigious fellowships in Europe and the USA with world-leading specialists in foot and ankle surgery. His time at a renowned American centre provided unparalleled experience in complex reconstruction, revision surgery, sports injuries and arthroplasty. He later undertook fellowship training in Dublin, focusing on deformity correction and forefoot surgery. For this work, he was awarded the top prize by the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society in 2008.
Mr Perera is dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence. He continuously audits his outcomes using his own research database and has published extensively in foot and ankle surgery and medical law. His contributions have been recognised with multiple national awards, including being named a finalist in the 2013 LaingBuisson Awards (Medical Practice category). He is Vice President of the International Society of Minimally Invasive Surgery and Arthroscopy of the Foot and Ankle and a board member of the International Ankle Instability Group.
