About
Mr. Anthony Hearnden is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising exclusively in surgery of the hand, wrist, shoulder and elbow. His practice involves the use of advanced arthroscopic and minimally invasive methods. He offers a comprehensive multi-disciplinary upper limb approach, through close links with referring therapists and clinicians.
Mr. Hearnden provides a tertiary referral service for many upper limb problems, in particular complex elbow surgery. He is regularly referred these difficult cases from other upper limb surgeons in the south of England.
Mr. Hearnden qualified from King's College Medical School, London, in 1995. Completing his years as a junior doctor at the Royal Surrey County Hospital, he then spent a year learning techniques in plastic surgery. His orthopaedic training was in south west London, before winning a prestigious hand and shoulder surgery fellowship at the Wrightington Upper Limb Unit, Manchester.
In 2007 he was made a consultant at Wrightington, where he routinely treated complex and tertiary hand, elbow and upper limb disorders from the north west of England. He returned to Guildford in 2010 to take up a consultant post at the Royal Surrey County Hospital.
In addition to his surgical qualifications, he holds a BSc in medical physics and is an honorary senior lecturer in orthopaedic management at Salford University. He is widely published in the medical journals and a member of the Ascension Orthopaedics product development team for new joint replacements in the hand and wrist. Mr. Hearnden also lectures nationally and internationally on upper limb surgery.

Mr Hearnden is a star. Knowledgable, professional, and personable. A true expert in his field with a friendly and caring manner, I was confident that I would be safe in his hands and its the best decision I have made regarding my treatment. Months of pain prior to the procedure has now gone, I am extremely grateful.

I have been a patient of Mr Hearnden for a number of years with an ongoing hand/wrist condition. Without fail, he has a friendly manner and is able to relay information in a clear and understandable manner. He discusses treatment options and allows me to make an informed decision on how to proceed on each occasion. He also has a sense of humour, which is most welcome.

Mr. Hearnden took a brave decision to attempt the rotor-cuff repair he did on my 76 year old, aged body. However, I am so glad (and grateful) for that decision because his expert repair has almost totally restored the use of my arm to where it was before the injury. I could not have wished for a better outcome. On the personal front, when I first came to 'One', in his calm, but thorough manner, Mr. Hearnden's explained what the scans had shown of the injury and then carefully further explained a possible repair technique - taking great care to avoid giving undue hope of a successful outcome. In he event, the out come has been extremely successful and I would have no hesitation in recommending him to anyone needing treatment in his specialist area. Mr Hearnden is always immediately welcoming, extremely kind, gentle in his manner & caring. He makes one feel completely at ease and confident in the knowledge that he has.
