Mr Alistair McCleary

Mr McCleary trained in Cambridge, Oxford, Leeds and Adelaide and has been a consultant vascular surgeon in York since 2001, treating patients across North Yorkshire.

Since being appointed as the first vasular surgeon in York, he has built a team of 7 vascular surgeons serving North Yorkshire, which is  one of the busiest in the UK.

He hs been the lead clinician for vascular surgery and Medical Director of the National North Yorkshire and Humberside Aortic Aneurysm Screening Programme.

He is currently the Treasurer of the Vascular Society of Great Britains and Ireland

Although he has broad interest in all aspects of vascular surgery, he was one of the first surgeons in the UK to adopt minimally incasive techniques for treating varicose veins under local anaesthesia(Radiofrequency ablation and EVLT) and has a large prcatice in treating excessive sweating with medications, Botox injections and surgery.

Mr McCleary is also actively involved in research and has an interest in carotid surgery and hyperhidrosis. 

Outside of the hospital he is a keen cyclist, golfer and skiier enjoying long muddy walks and being disappointed by Ulster Rugby every season.
