About Dr. Michael Sostheim
Dr Michael Sostheim is a specialist in orthopaedic and trauma surgery with a particular focus on total hip arthroplasty and revision surgery. His expertise includes minimally invasive hip replacement and minimally invasive knee replacement.
Dr Sostheim qualified with an MD from Johannes Gutenberg Universität Mainz in 2002. His professional development included a doctoral thesis at UCSF in San Francisco and surgical training in South Africa. He subsequently trained at OCM Munich under Professor Heinz Röttinger and Robert Hube, where he learned the Röttinger Approach to tissue-sparing hip surgery.
He is a Senior Surgeon for Arthroplasty certified by EndoCert, a Master of Arthroplasty for Hip and Knee certified by AE and a Specialist for Knee Surgery certified by DKG. He has also been recognised as a Top Physician by German Focus magazine.
Dr Sostheim is involved in teaching as an instructor and faculty member on international operative courses for minimally invasive hip arthroplasty and is a member of the AE Hip Committee. His academic work includes publications in peer-reviewed journals, including The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, and book chapters. He also regularly participates in conferences, including through lectures and live surgical demonstrations.
