Dr Matthew Jonathan Rooney

Dr Matthew Rooney is a highly experienced consultant anaesthetist based in Birmingham and Solihull. Qualified in medicine in 1986 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, resident training initially in Newcastle including 9 months general/renal/diabetic and endocrine  medicine along with first 2 years in anaesthetics and winning Magill prize ifor professional examination performance. Registrar training in Nottingham and Lincoln becoming a Fellow of the  Royal College of Anaesthetists. Research fellow at Nottingham University with clinical duties in  major spinal surgery. Senior Registrar at Birmingham with specialist training completed in December 1996 and appointment as Consultant Anaesthetist at Birmingham and Solihull NHS Trust in 1997.

Was lead for audit and critical incidents, lead in Ophthalmic anaesthesi. Appointed Chief Clinical Information Officer for Trust until merger with University Hospitals Birmingham but remained with role as clinical lead for Shared Care Record with other local trusts and legacy systems at UHB.
