Dr Mary Brennan

Dr Mary Brennan is a highly dedicated Consultant Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatologist who specialises in the diagnosis and management of musculoskeletal and autoimmune conditions in children and young people. With a reassuring and patient-centred approach, she is committed to helping young patients manage chronic inflammatory conditions, aiming to support them in living full, active, and independent lives. Dr Brennan works closely within a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, including Specialist Nurses, Physiotherapists, and Occupational Therapists, to deliver comprehensive, tailored care plans that address the unique physical and emotional needs of each child.

Her clinical practice encompasses a wide range of paediatric rheumatology conditions. Dr Brennan has particular expertise in managing complex disorders such as Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA), Juvenile Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, and Juvenile Dermatomyositis. Her areas of interest also extend to scleroderma, mixed connective tissue disorders, vasculitis, chronic non-infectious osteitis, and autoinflammatory fever syndromes. Additionally, she provides expert care for children experiencing biomechanical joint pain, hypermobility syndrome, and uveitis, ensuring that every patient receives a precise diagnosis and an optimised treatment pathway.

Dr Brennan obtained her medical degree, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB BChir), and subsequently achieved membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH). Demonstrating a strong commitment to advancing her field, she serves as the Steering Group Chair for the Scottish Paediatric and Adolescent Rheumatology Network (SPARN). In this leadership role, she actively contributes to the development of clinical guidelines, the improvement of patient pathways, and the facilitation of smooth transitions for adolescent patients moving from paediatric to adult healthcare services.
