About Prof. Mark Wright

Professor Mark Wright is a Consultant Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with specialist expertise in therapeutic endoscopy. He provides comprehensive care across the full spectrum of gastrointestinal and liver disease, combining advanced endoscopic techniques with evidence-based hepatology practice.

Professor Wright studied medicine at St Bartholomew’s Hospital, London, qualifying in 1994. He completed his postgraduate medical training in London and undertook doctoral research at Imperial College London, further strengthening his academic and clinical expertise in gastroenterology and liver disease.

His clinical interests include the diagnosis and management of complex gastrointestinal conditions, liver disorders, and advanced therapeutic endoscopic procedures. Therapeutic endoscopy involves minimally invasive techniques used to diagnose and treat conditions of the oesophagus, stomach, intestines and biliary system, often avoiding the need for more invasive surgery.

Alongside his clinical work, Professor Wright is an Honorary Professor at the University of Southampton. He has an extensive research portfolio and contributes actively to medical education and clinical research.

He is a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology, the British Association for the Study of the Liver, and the European Association for the Study of the Liver, reflecting his commitment to maintaining the highest professional standards in gastroenterology and hepatology.
