Dr Marco Chiesa is an experienced consultant psychiatrist and psychotherapist with over 35 years of experience in his field. He completed his medical training at Milan University Medical School and specialised in General Psychiatry both in Milan and London within the Charing Cross Hospital postgraduate training scheme. He became a Member and then a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and a Fellow of the London Institute of Psychoanalysis.
Dr Chiesa's main interest is in the treatment and management of patients with personality disorders and psychiatric syndromes with associated personality disorders, including anxiety disorders, affective disorders, and borderline personality disorder (BPD). He is also experienced in reducing, deprescribing and withdrawing psychiatric medication while offering psychological support. As a qualified medical doctor, he is able to prescribe medication when necessary.
During his time as a Consultant Psychiatrist at the Cassel Hospital, Richmond from 1991 to 2015, he developed and expanded the outpatient Adult Personality Disorder Service and the Research Unit. He is now a Visiting Professor at the Department of Clinical, Educational and Health Psychology at University College London and has a private practice in East Sheen, London SW.
