Mr Marc Bullock is a highly accomplished Consultant Colorectal Surgeon based in Bath with a diverse range of expertise and a strong commitment to medical education and humanitarian surgery. He currently sees patients at Sulis Hospital Bath and Bath Clinic.
Mr Bullock completed his medical degree at University of Oxford in 2003, followed by his MA (Oxon) at the same university. He was awarded the prestigious Domus Scholarship and several undergraduate prizes in recognition of his outstanding academic achievements. He later completed his training at University Hospital Southampton in colorectal and general surgery. During his training, he began research surrounding molecular oncology, focusing on the clinical applications of microRNAs, novel molecules with significant implications in colorectal cancer. He was awarded his PhD for his research work, as well as multiple accolades including an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship, Clinical Lectureship, MRC Clinical Research Fellowship and CRUK postdoctoral research bursary.
Following the completion of his PhD, Mr Bullock undertook a postdoctoral research position at the MD Anderson Cancer Centre in Houston, Texas, USA. He then returned to the UK and completed a clinical fellowship in robotic and exenteration surgery at the renowned Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust. During this fellowship, he gained accreditation in robotic surgery and trained alongside world-renowned gynaecological oncologists, urologists, and colorectal surgeons.
In his current clinical practice, Mr Bullock sees patients with a wide range of colorectal conditions, including: appendicitis, anal fissure, anal fistula, haemorrhoids, rectal prolapse, inflammatory bowel disease, hernia (including incisional, inguinal, femoral and umbilical hernia) and bowel cancer. He has expertise in procedures for the treatment and management of these conditions, including laparoscopy, sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, colectomy, appendectomy and sphincterotomy.
Alongside his clinical and research work, Mr Bullock is deeply committed to medical education and humanitarian surgery. He has worked with Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in the Democratic Republic of Congo and played a pivotal role in establishing an essential surgical skills course in collaboration with the Mercy Ships charity and the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.
