Dr Manju Kurian

Dr Manju Kurian is a distinguished Consultant Paediatric Neurologist and Professor of Neurogenetics who provides comprehensive clinical care for children and young people experiencing complex neurological conditions. Specialising in Paediatrics and Paediatric Neurology, she focuses on diagnosing and managing rare childhood movement disorders, neurodegenerative conditions, and genetic brain disorders. Dr Kurian is committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care, ensuring that young patients and their families receive clear guidance, reassurance, and individualised treatment strategies throughout their clinical journey.

Her clinical interests cover a broad range of paediatric neurological conditions, including early-onset epilepsy, neurotransmitter diseases, and neurometabolic syndromes. Dr Kurian has recognised expertise in childhood movement disorders such as dystonia, parkinsonism, and dopamine transporter deficiency syndrome, as well as neurodegeneration with brain iron accumulation. Her clinical practice incorporates cutting-edge genomic investigations alongside precision medicine approaches, including advanced gene-based therapies and tailored medical management designed to optimise health outcomes and enhance quality of life for her patients.

Dr Kurian completed her medical education at the University of Cambridge, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Medical Sciences Tripos, a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, and a Master of Arts in Social Anthropology. She attained Membership of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health in 2000, establishing her formal qualifications in paediatric medicine. Furthering her academic and research expertise, she completed a PhD in Human Molecular Genetics at the University of Birmingham in 2010, investigating the underlying genetic mechanisms of childhood neurological disorders.
