Dr Malcolm Proudfoot

Dr Malcolm Proudfoot is a dedicated Consultant Neurologist specialising in the diagnosis, management, and ongoing care of individuals with complex neurological conditions. Working within multidisciplinary care teams, Dr Proudfoot evaluates patients presenting with a wide spectrum of nervous system disorders. His clinical approach is rooted in providing clear, empathetic guidance alongside precise diagnostic assessments to help patients navigate their health journeys with confidence.

In clinical practice, Dr Proudfoot holds a specialist interest in motor neurone disease (MND) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), as well as related conditions such as frontotemporal dementia (FTD) and general neurodegenerative disorders. He provides thorough clinical evaluations, advanced symptom management, and coordinated supportive care tailored to each individual's circumstances. In addition to his focus on neurodegenerative conditions, Dr Proudfoot assesses a broad range of general neurological symptoms, including headaches, movement changes, epilepsy, and cognitive difficulties.

Dr Proudfoot completed his primary medical training, earning a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) alongside a Master of Arts (MA). He subsequently undertook doctoral research at the University of Oxford, achieving a Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) in clinical neurosciences. His academic work focused on advanced neuroimaging techniques, such as magnetoencephalography and brain network analysis in motor neurone disease. He was awarded a PhD Entry Fellowship by the Guarantors of Brain charity and has authored numerous peer-reviewed studies on neurodegenerative biomarkers and genetic testing.
