Professor Mahmut Dogramaci

Professor Mahmut Dogramaci is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and Vitreoretinal Surgeon with more than two decades of experience in ophthalmology. His specialist expertise encompasses both surgical and medical retinal conditions, alongside cataract surgery and the management of complex cataract cases.

His clinical interests include retinal detachment, macular and lamellar holes, epiretinal membranes, vitreous haemorrhage and complications following cataract surgery. He also manages medical retinal conditions such as diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and retinal vascular occlusions, with treatments including intravitreal injections. His surgical experience extends to secondary lens implantation, ocular trauma and complex vitreoretinal procedures.

Professor Dogramaci undertook ophthalmology training in both Turkey and the UK and has been included on the GMC Specialist Register for Ophthalmology since 2009. He subsequently developed further subspecialist expertise through fellowships in medical and surgical retina, including training in Gloucestershire and at St Thomas' Hospital in London.

Academic work forms a significant part of his career. Professor Dogramaci has contributed to ophthalmic research, publications, books and inventions, and has presented his work at national and international conferences. His experience in medical education has included work as a college tutor as well as clinical and educational supervision. He also holds academic professorial appointments and continues to combine clinical ophthalmology with research and teaching.
