Mr Luigi Volpini

I am a Consultant Head & Neck Surgeon and Otorhinolaryngologist based at Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust, with over 15 years’ experience in treating the full spectrum of Ear, Nose and Throat conditions.

After becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and a Fellow of the European Board of Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery, I undertook uniquely extensive subspecialist training in Head and Neck Surgery. This included the prestigious Senior Clinical Fellowship in Advanced Head and Neck Surgical Oncology at Guy’s Hospital, followed by the highly sought-after Senior Clinical Fellowship in Head, Neck, Thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery at Aintree University Hospital. After successfully completing the rigorous United States Medical Licensing Examinations and obtaining a license to practise in the USA, I subsequently undertook a further year of advanced clinical training in Head and Neck Oncologic and Microvascular Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Before relocating to Surrey, I led and delivered high-volume tertiary head and neck cancer services in the North West of England and served as a regional referral point for complex thyroid surgery, including cases requiring joint cardiothoracic and head and neck surgical input.

My clinical practice is highly specialised in the management of head and neck mucosal malignancies, head and neck skin cancers, thyroid and parathyroid surgery, salivary gland tumours and tumours of the nose. I have extensive experience in advanced surgical techniques including transoral robotic surgery, transoral laser microsurgery, skull base surgery, and complex head and neck reconstruction. My additional areas of specialist interest include neurogenic and vascular tumours, radiorecurrent head and neck cancer, cancers of unknown primary, airway surgery and reconstruction, and the management of facial nerve paralysis
