Dr Lucy Lord

Dr. Lucy Lord, MBE, is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with over 40 years of experience in women’s health. She is a founding partner of Central Health Medical Practice in London and has had a distinguished career, particularly in maternity care, fertility, and maternal mental health. Dr. Lord is internationally recognised for her work and has been a key player in Hong Kong’s healthcare sector for the past 30 years. In January 2023, she was honoured with an MBE in the UK’s New Year Honours List “for services to health in Hong Kong.”

Dr. Lord's journey in medicine began at the University of Cambridge, after which she trained at Queen Charlotte’s and St Mary’s Hospitals in London. In 1991, she moved to Hong Kong, where she joined a small obstetric practice. Over the next three decades, she transformed the practice into one of Hong Kong’s most respected private medical groups—Central Health Hong Kong, now employing over 100 staff and treating more than 2,000 patients per week across multiple sites.

A key theme throughout Dr. Lord’s career has been her advocacy for maternal mental health. She strongly believes that “the wellbeing of the family is determined by maternal mental health,” and that supporting women’s mental health should be the primary goal of primary healthcare services. This belief has driven her clinical work and public health reforms, where she has campaigned for policy changes to improve maternity safety, access to fertility care, and compassionate treatment for women experiencing pregnancy loss.

In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Lord founded the Patient Care Foundation, which supports vulnerable groups, including high-risk pregnant women, children separated from parents in hospitals, refugees, and individuals with mental health challenges. Her most significant contribution, however, has been the founding of Mind Hong Kong (MindHK), a major mental health NGO dedicated to ending stigma and increasing access to care. As Executive Chair of MindHK, she continues to lead initiatives such as the Improving Access to Community Therapies (IACT) programme and the launch of Hong Kong’s first free, evidence-based online mental health counselling platform.

Now based in the UK, Dr. Lord continues her commitment to women’s wellbeing at Central Health London, where she provides compassionate, multidisciplinary family healthcare under one roof. Dr. Lord’s expertise in managing high-risk pregnancies, recurrent miscarriage, and advocating for maternal mental health remains central to her practice.
