Dr Louise Coats

Dr Louise Coats is a dedicated Consultant Cardiologist specialising in adult congenital heart disease. Focused on delivering high-quality, compassionate care, Dr Coats provides comprehensive management for adult patients living with structural and congenital cardiac conditions. Her clinical focus includes general cardiology, heart failure in adult congenital heart disease, Fontan circulation, and the management of heart disease during pregnancy.

Dr Coats completed her medical degree with distinction at medical school in London, qualifying in 1999, where she received the Brackenbury prize for Medicine. She achieved Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) in 2002 after completing general medical training. Dr Coats subsequently earned a PhD at University College London, investigating physiological adaptation to cardiac loading conditions. She completed her higher clinical training in general cardiology and adult congenital cardiology, alongside specialised training in congenital cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Dr Coats holds professional memberships with the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh, the British Cardiac Society, the British Congenital Cardiac Society, and the European Society of Cardiology Working Group on Grown-up Congenital Heart Disease.

Driven by a commitment to advancing patient care, Dr Coats is actively engaged in clinical research to improve long-term outcomes for individuals with congenital heart conditions. Her research interests include non-invasive cardiac imaging, risk assessment in congenital heart disease, and strategies to enhance ambulatory care and patient engagement.
