Mr Max Almond

Mr Almond is a Consultant General and Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon specialising in Abdominal Cancer Surgery, Gallstones, Acid Reflux surgery, Hernia repairs and Endoscopy. His NHS practice is based at University Hospital Birmingham. Mr Almond is highly skilled at open, laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures. His abdominal cancer practice includes surgery for sarcoma, GIST, neuroendocrine tumours and adrenal cancers. Patients with complex rare tumours are referred to him from across England and Wales.

Mr Almond completed subspecialty training in upper gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary surgery and then gained further specialist experience in abdominal cancer surgery through Fellowships to the Istitutio Dei Tumori, Milan and the Royal Marsden Hospital, London. In addition, he developed specialist skills in therapeutic endoscopy (including ERCP) through Fellowships to Harvard University, Boston; the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, and the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, US.

Mr Almond is an honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Birmingham. He has published more than 70 research articles including recent publications in the British Journal of Surgery and the jounral Nature. He is a member of the British Sarcoma Group and the Transatlantic Retroperitoneal Sarcoma Working Group through which he has contributed to international guidelines.
