About Ms Lana Faraj
Dr Lana A Faraj graduated with first-class honours in Medicine, a master’s in molecular diagnostics, and a PhD in cornea and anterior segment research from the University of Nottingham. After training in ophthalmology in the East Midlands Deanery, she specialised in cornea, cataract, and external eye diseases.
An experienced cataract surgeon, Dr Faraj focuses on complex cases and premium intraocular lenses. As the lead for the corneal service at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton, she provides sight-restoring procedures such as DMEK, DALK, and corneal collagen crosslinking. Her clinical interests include ocular surface inflammation, dry eye, and corneal infections.
With a strong research and teaching background, Dr Faraj has numerous publications, conference presentations, and awards to her name. Holding diplomas in medical education and cataract and refractive surgery, she continues to teach in her current role. Improving patients’ sight is her passion.

The complete process was seamless from beginning to the end
Went to see Lana about Reflective Lens Replacement surgery. The service at Newmedica and Lana was thorough and professional throughout. At the first consultation Lana explained the procedure, but also covered the risks. I decided to have lenses replaced in both eyes and therefore met Lana for surgery twice. Prior to surgery Lana covered what would happen and described the surgery as a little discomfort but no pain, which was how it transpired. Thinking about the surgery was far worse than the surgery itself. Extremely happy with the results of the surgery and thanks to Lana and the team. I would recommend this approach to anyone struggling with glasses and vision.
The whole experience was excellent. From the receptionist right through to the consultant I was treated very professionally. I am so pleased that I was told about these facilities. I would recommend them to everyone. Thank you.
Ms Faraj is conscientious and thorough in her examination and takes a considerable time in explaining her findings and discussing possible treatments.
