Mr Khalid Khan

I am a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon specialising in conditions affecting the colon, rectum and anus.

I investigate and treat patients experiencing a wide range of bowel and anorectal symptoms, including rectal bleeding, changes in bowel habit, and abdominal or anal pain. I provide expert assessment and personalised treatment for conditions such as haemorrhoids, anal fissures, anal skin tags, pilonidal disease, perianal abscesses, anal fistulae, anal warts and rectal prolapse.

I have a particular interest in the treatment of pilonidal disease and regularly treat patients with both primary and recurrent disease. My practice also includes Bascom cleft lift surgery, an established technique that aims to improve healing and reduce the chance of the condition returning.

I am highly experienced in the management of haemorrhoids and offer a full range of treatments, including rubber band ligation, THD (Transanal Haemorrhoidal Dearterialisation) and haemorrhoidectomy. I also have extensive experience in the treatment of anal fissures, anal warts, anal fistulae and other anorectal conditions.

As a JAG-accredited endoscopist, I have performed more than 1,500 lower gastrointestinal endoscopic procedures, including colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy, together with over 1,000 gastroscopies. I regularly investigate patients with bowel symptoms and remove large and complex bowel polyps.

In addition to my colorectal practice, I provide general surgical services, including open inguinal, umbilical and incisional hernia repair, together with the removal of lipomas, cysts and other benign skin and soft tissue lumps.

In my NHS practice, I regularly perform major colorectal surgery, including laparoscopic (keyhole) procedures, for bowel cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis), diverticular disease and stoma-related complications. This experience supports my private practice in the assessment and management of a wide range of colorectal conditions.

My surgical training began with a five-year postgraduate programme in Pakistan, culminating in the award of Fellowship of the College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS) in 2009. Following my move to the United Kingdom, I obtained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS) in 2018.  I then further honed my expertise through a two-year specialist colorectal fellowship at Hull University Teaching Hospitals. This invaluable experience equipped me with advanced skills in managing both benign and malignant conditions of the colon, rectum and anus.
