About Mr Khalid Al-Hourani

Mr Khalid Al-Hourani is a specialised Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon dedicated to helping patients return to their activities - from elite sport to everyday life.

Mr Al-Hourani is the only UK orthopaedic surgeon to have completed an accredited orthopaedic Sports Knee Surgery fellowship in Boston, USA. During this time, he trained at world-renowned institutions including Boston Medical Center, New England Baptist Hospital, Harvard University Health Services, and Beth Israel Medical Center. He also served as team physician for elite Division I basketball and ice hockey athletes at Boston University. Gaining this fellowship required passing the rigorous United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLEs), making him one of a select group of UK orthopaedic surgeons to achieve this.

Prior to his Boston training, Mr Al-Hourani undertook advanced fellowships in sports knee surgery and trauma at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire — one of the UK’s leading tertiary centres for complex orthopaedic care.

Today, his practice covers the full spectrum of knee conditions — from sports injuries such as ACL and meniscus tears, to kneecap disorders, cartilage repair, knee preservation and realignment procedures, as well as partial and total knee replacement. Patients benefit from his unique blend of US and UK training, ensuring access to the most advanced surgical techniques delivered with a clear, honest, and personalised approach.

I had a meniscus tear repair under the care of Mr Al-Hourani in April. He was clear, friendly, and kind throughout, taking the time to explain the procedure and recovery in a way that was easy to understand and reassuring. I felt fully informed and confident in my treatment from start to finish. His calm and approachable manner made a real difference during what could have been a stressful time. It was also clear that the hospital staff enjoy working with him, which says a lot about the professional and positive environment he creates. I’m very grateful for the care I received and would highly recommend him to anyone needing knee surgery.

I saw Dr Khalid Al-Hourani on 7 th April for my knee injury. He was calm , knowledgable , reassuring , approachable , efficient and I felt he took the time to listen and answer any questions I had . I felt I was in capable hands. He was able to explain my MRI and the options I have succinctly and in a way I could understand. I think having trust in a Dr is very important and I already feel I trust he has my best intentions going forward. .
