About Mr Khalid Al-Hourani

Mr Khalid Al-Hourani is a specialised Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon dedicated to helping patients return to their activities - from elite sport to everyday life.

Mr Al-Hourani is the only UK orthopaedic surgeon to have completed an accredited orthopaedic Sports Knee Surgery fellowship in Boston, USA. During this time, he trained at world-renowned institutions including Boston Medical Center, New England Baptist Hospital, Harvard University Health Services, and Beth Israel Medical Center. He also served as team physician for elite Division I basketball and ice hockey athletes at Boston University. Gaining this fellowship required passing the rigorous United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLEs), making him one of a select group of UK orthopaedic surgeons to achieve this.

Prior to his Boston training, Mr Al-Hourani undertook advanced fellowships in sports knee surgery and trauma at University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire — one of the UK’s leading tertiary centres for complex orthopaedic care.

Today, his practice covers the full spectrum of knee conditions — from sports injuries such as ACL and meniscus tears, to kneecap disorders, cartilage repair, knee preservation and realignment procedures, as well as partial and total knee replacement. Patients benefit from his unique blend of US and UK training, ensuring access to the most advanced surgical techniques delivered with a clear, honest, and personalised approach.

I was recommended to visit Mr Al-Hourani for my meniscus injury as he is an expert in the most advanced surgical techniques and well researched in his field. Mr Al Hourani was approachable and thorough in his initial examination and his assessment felt very patient-centred, involving a discussion of all the options and what was best for me. I wouldn’t hesitate to see him again for any further knee investigation and treatment as he is the best consultant I have seen for this issue.

The most recent appointment with Dr Al-Hourani was wonderful as he gave my son the news that his leg was completely healed and he could go back to playing rugby. We cannot thank Dr Al-Hourani enough for everything that he did our son.

I’ve had longstanding niggling pain on the outside of my knee for quite some time which had been largely ignored by others. Dr AlHourani took his time to revisit my story and assessed my knee very thoroughly before making sure he involved me in the way my knee was treated as opposed to simply giving me his opinion. I’ve had successful treatment without surgery and I’m more hopeful about my knee progress now. Thank you so much for your time. if I have any further problems I’ll be sure to go back to only this surgeon!

I visited Dr Alhourani as I had recurrent chronic right knee swelling. He was very thorough with his examination and after all the special tests, he accurately diagnosed my issue. He was professional, courteous and respectful throughout my consult and I felt very reassured in his hands. I am due to have surgery soon and I am glad I chose Dr Al Hourani to surgically correct my issue. He is a valued asset to any clinic in or around London

I came to Mr Al-Hourani with long-standing knee pain that had been stopping me from running for months. From the first appointment he took the time to really listen, explain every option clearly, and make sure I understood exactly what was going on. What impressed me most was how quickly he identified that my problem was actually referred pain, not a primary knee issue—something no one had picked up before. He managed my knee non-operatively and arranged an onward referral for the underlying cause straight away. For the first time in ages I finally feel hopeful that I’ll be able to run again. Mr Al-Hourani’s calm approach, clear explanations, and the space he gives you to make informed decisions is genuinely unique. I left every appointment feeling more knowledgeable and completely reassured. I’m really grateful for everything he’s done. Thank you.

To initial meet Dr Khalid Al-Hourani I was really impressed. He explained the injury type that I had and explained how he would like to fix it. I spoke to him about returning to sport and premise using my hamstring instead of my patella tendon. He's spoke me through some of the advantages and disadvantages of both and I agreed to then have the patella tendon. Everything that has been a really good interaction that I have had from follow up appointments at the hospital to phone calls to check in and see how I am doing!
