Dr Keir Shiels

Dr Keir Shiels is a dedicated Consultant Paediatrician who provides expert clinical care for infants, children, and young people. Known for his compassionate and patient-centred approach, Dr Shiels combines scientific expertise with clear, empathetic communication to support young patients and their families through diagnosis, treatment, and long-term care. He strives to create a welcoming, reassuring environment where children feel at ease and parents feel fully informed and involved in clinical decisions.

Dr Shiels completed his initial higher education in Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge before completing his medical degree (MB BChir). His clinical training encompasses wide-ranging experience across general paediatric care, specialist paediatric neurology, respiratory medicine, emergency care, and neonatal intensive care. In 2015, Dr Shiels achieved formal accreditation as a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (MRCPCH). In the same year, he became a recognised Fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators (FAcadMEd), reflecting his ongoing dedication to medical education and professional standards.

Throughout his practice, Dr Shiels has developed broad expertise across both General Paediatrics and Acute Paediatrics. His clinical focus includes managing complex paediatric presentations, developmental delay, failure to thrive, and paediatric endocrine conditions such as childhood diabetes. In addition, Dr Shiels possesses specialised interest in multidisciplinary management for children with cleft lip and palate, craniofacial conditions, and rare genetic syndromes, including 22q11 microdeletion syndrome, RASopathies, and Noonan syndrome.

Alongside his clinical responsibilities, Dr Shiels is actively involved in medical education, communication training, and public healthcare engagement. He regularly lectures, trains junior doctors, and contributes to educational initiatives designed to enhance clinical communication in child healthcare. By integrating evidence-based medicine with a holistic, individualised approach, Dr Shiels ensures that every child receives comprehensive care tailored to their unique physical and emotional needs.
