Dr Katy Barnes

Dr Katy Barnes is a highly dedicated Consultant Neonatologist and Paediatrician who specialises in neonatal intensive care. With a profound commitment to the health and well-being of newborn infants, she provides expert clinical care to preterm and critically ill babies. Dr Barnes is widely recognised for her compassionate approach, working closely with families to navigate the complexities of neonatal medicine and ensure the highest standards of patient safety.

Dr Barnes completed her medical training at the University of Cambridge, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree, followed by her Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery qualifications. She is a Member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health. Demonstrating a strong commitment to clinical excellence and safety, she has also served as a Lead for Clinical Governance, focusing on risk reduction and quality improvement within neonatal services.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Barnes is actively involved in medical education and research. She is a co-author of the widely respected textbook Crash Course Paediatrics, helping to train the next generation of medical professionals. Her clinical and research interests include infant nutrition, particularly the safe administration of expressed breast milk, and neonatal blood pressure monitoring. She is also a strong advocate for the integration of human factors in clinical settings to enhance teamwork and patient safety.
